First Offenders

First Offenders is an early intervention program which attempts to educate and re-educate students on issues regarding drugs/alcohol. When a student violates Policy AS90 for the first time (for possession or use), he/she has two options:

I. The student may attend four 2-hour sessions of education-based classes. Course topics include decision making, policies review, communication, self-discipline/self esteem and legal issues. Each student must be accompanied by an adult, preferably a parent, at each session.

II. If a student chooses not to attend Jordan District Early Intervention Drug and Alcohol Class, he/she will be placed in a home-based alternative education program for ten school days.

In addition, if the requirements for class are not met, the student will be automatically placed in the home-based alternative education program for the remainder of the ten days. Subsequent violations include home/hospital service and mandatory drug assessments.

Self-Discipline School

Self-Discipline is a four week class offered to help students who have had repeated anger problems in school. The student and his/her parents attend classes taught by JSD counselors and designed to help participants recognize anger triggers, identify physical responses to anger, learn ways to more effectively communicate with authority figures, and learn more appropriate anger responses.

S.A.V.E. (Student Anti-Violence Education)

This program provides services for students who have been in violation of policy AS67, which is the safe schools violations. Students are referred directly from the Appeals Committee and are required to access these services as a condition of their return to school. The goal of S.A.V.E. is to eliminate repeated dangerous behaviors of identified students.
