Founded in 1946, the Utah Alcoholism Foundation (UAF) is the oldest provider of substance abuse treatment services in Utah. The Agency’s mission is to build futures and unify families to stop generational substance abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence. This is accomplished by providing quality, affordable substance abuse treatment, education, and prevention services to those who are in need.

The House of Hope Program is a women and childrenĀ“s program that provides a continuum of care including Residential, Day Treatment, Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient substance abuse treatment services, and Aftercare. We utilize best practice methodology based in the “Bio-Psycho-Social” modality and serve general population women, pregnant women, mothers with children up to age 8, and women working with DCFS on reunification. The House of Hope has several facilities near the University of Utah, including the treatment center/administrative offices, four supportive living residences for up to 45 women and their children, and the Hope Center for Children. Individualized treatment plans are designed for each woman and child based upon the results of an intensive assessment, social history and other relevant information. Services offered include: group, individual, and family therapy; substance abuse education; life skills classes; relapse prevention classes; case management and referral to local resources; communication skills training; and mileau therapy in the residential program. DUI classes are held every two weeks at the House of Hope for men and women.

The Hope Center serves the children, ages 3 months to age 8, whose mothers attend the House of Hope programs. It provides developmental and therapeutic childcare for up to 60 children daily and can accommodate children up to age 10 during the summer months. This program administers a family assessment and conducts family therapy along with teaching parenting skills to the mothers in treatment.
