First Offenders
First Offenders is an early intervention program which attempts to educate and re-educate students on issues regarding drugs/alcohol. When a student violates Policy AS90 for the first time (for possession or use), he/she has two options:
I. The student may attend four 2-hour sessions of education-based classes. Course topics include decision making, policies review, communication, self-discipline/self esteem and legal issues. Each student must be accompanied by an adult, preferably a parent, at each session.
II. If a student chooses not to attend Jordan District Early Intervention Drug and Alcohol Class, he/she will be placed in a home-based alternative education program for ten school days.
In addition, if the requirements for class are not met, the student will be automatically placed in the home-based alternative education program for the remainder of the ten days. Subsequent violations include home/hospital service and mandatory drug assessments.
